The task
When processing metal parts in lathes or milling machines, the raw materials must be clamped in the machine before the machining. In addition, each machine requires the right tool for the respective machining operation, and it must be changed regularly depending on the material and the end product. These processes are among the central tasks in machining production and require a high degree of precision and repeatability. Trained specialist personnel are required for clamping the workpieces and changing tools.
The challenge
However, these specialists are becoming increasingly difficult to find. To counteract staff shortages and increase efficiency at the same time, more and more companies are using mobile robotic arms mounted on automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). However, these systems are not always perfectly aligned with the machine. Depending on the type of vehicle, positional deviations of several centimeters may occur. Inaccuracies of this nature have a direct effect on the gripping position of the robot arm and can result in raw materials or tools being damaged.
Our solution
Our VISOR® Robotic offers a precise and reliable solution for position detection in automated CNC machine tending. In combination with the Target Mark 3D, the vision sensor helps ensure accurate positioning of both the robot and the vehicle. This allows the robot arm to adjust its gripping points with maximum precision – regardless of slight deviations in the AGV or AMR. The camera can be easily calibrated and recalibrated across all robots. This reduces the effort required for integration, minimizes downtimes and ensures stable and efficient operation of the automated processing cells.
