Coating Inspection with UV Light

Titelbild

The Task

In electronics manufacturing, it's essential that circuit boards are properly coated with a protective lacquer to ensure both functionality and long-term durability. To guarantee quality, the presence or absence of this coating must be inspected automatically as part of the production process. A vision sensor is used to verify the coating on electronic components.

The Challenge

When the protective lacquer is transparent, it becomes nearly invisible under standard lighting conditions, making it especially difficult to detect.

Our Solution

The VISOR® UV vision sensor is equipped with integrated UV LEDs that allow it to reliably detect transparent coatings. It accurately verifies whether the coating is present or missing—without requiring an external light source. The sensor filters out grayscale variations within the defined region of interest (ROI) and minimizes disruptive reflections thanks to its tilted mounting angle. This ensures clear, high-contrast images and consistent inspection results.

Your Advantages

  • Reliable detection of transparent coatings using integrated UV illumination
  • Minimized reflections for sharp, accurate image evaluation
