Application example
In many components in the process industry, a thin membrane ensures pressure equalization and thus reliable operation of the component. If this membrane is missing, malfunctions can result later on.Consequently, before assembly can be continued, a reliable check is required to ensure the membrane is correctly in place. In addition, the membrane is not always positioned exactly during feeding and deviations of several millimeters in depth can occur. A sensor can be used to perform this presence check.
The membrane is extremely thin and produces practically no measurable difference in height. In addition, its position varies in depth due to imprecise feeding. Sensors with background suppression or purely geometric evaluation reach their limits here, as they do not provide a stable signal under these conditions. This would result in false detections or non-detections.
The DTECT® Color FT 55-CM uses color-based detection to reliably distinguish the membrane from the background. This means that detection is independent of the exact depth position. Even with position fluctuations of several millimetres, the color sensor reliably detects the membrane, as it is not the distance but the color feature that is evaluated. The integrated display enables quick and easy teach-in directly in the application.
