How distance sensors help AGVs reliably localize objects

The task

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are playing an increasingly significant role in intralogistics. They are used for autonomous transportation of objects between warehouses and production lines, as well as between individual production steps. Distance sensors are necessary for AGVs to recognize the position of objects, e.g. on shelves.

The challenge

Due to the limited installation space in the AGV, a compact sensor size is required.
In addition, the sensor must have high precision and the longest possible range.

Our solution

The subminiature laser distance sensor, FT 10 RLA, meets the desired requirements with its compact design, long range and outstanding accuracy.
Thanks to its minimal dimensions, it is also suitable for very small installation spaces and therefore fits perfectly into the limited installation space of AGVs.
Furthermore, settings can be made conveniently via a PC or the controller with an IO-Link.

Your advantages

  • Smallest measurement sensor in this form factor
  • Minimal weight
  • High accuracy
  • Setting via IO-Link
  • Real millimeter values via IO-Link output
  • Adjustable averaging times
  • Laser class 1 for optimal eye safety
