The Task

In packaging inspection, every detail counts—even small deviations can lead to customer complaints or unnecessary waste. This is especially true in earplug packaging, where it’s essential to verify that every box contains the correct number of items before sealing. A sensor performs this check, ensuring each box reaches the customer fully complete and accurate, preventing faulty packaging from the start. 

The Challenge

Earplugs are not fixed in the packaging and may shift during handling. They can lie close together or move, particularly when objects are missing. This makes it technically challenging to reliably detect completeness, regardless of the objects’ positions.

The DTECT® Object 3D sensor uses volume-based detection to reliably verify the number of items in each package, no matter their position. Missing earplugs are clearly detected, ensuring accurate completeness checks. Setup is simple via the sensor buttons, and the solution can be quickly integrated into existing production processes.
