Reliable Completeness Check of Storage Boxes

The Task

Storage boxes are essential for efficient transport and storage in automated systems. Before shipping, it’s critical to ensure that each box is fully loaded. This prevents consumer complaints and ensures consistently high process quality. A sensor is used to perform this completeness check. 

The Challenge

The boxes and their contents vary in color, shape, and size. Detecting dark objects inside dark containers—such as black parts in black boxes—is particularly challenging and often exceeds the capabilities of conventional sensor systems. 

Our Solution

In triggered mode, the DTECT® Object 3D reliably checks every box, regardless of the color or shape of the objects inside. Its volume-based technology ensures stable and repeatable detection, even with difficult contrasts. Even black objects in black boxes are detected reliably. The sensor can be set up quickly and easily via the touch of a button, allowing smooth integration into existing processes.
