Flexible color detection for countless surfaces

DTECT® Color – Color sensors for industry

Our color sensors in the DTECT® Color Series detect colors and material differences based on spectral analysis: They evaluate the reflected light components of an object spectrally and compare them with taught-in reference values. This allows color markings and product variants to be reliably detected and distinguished – even at high cycle rates or in difficult illumination conditions.

Depending on your requirements, you can choose between different series with specific functional and equipment features, all of which are ideal for precise color-based object.

Selection guide: Which color sensor do you need?

With DTECT® Color, choose from different variants of the FT 55-CM for reliable color detection and assignment in industrial environments. Choosing the appropriate variant depends on the complexity of the colors or materials to be distinguished, among other things.

FT 55-CM-1: The specialist in glare suppression at close range

FT 55-CM-1: The specialist in glare suppression at close range

This variant operates within a measurement range of up to 32 mm and is equipped with 3 switching outputs and the ability to store up to 7 colors. A crossed polarizing filter for glare suppression makes them particularly suitable for highly reflective surfaces.

FT 55-CM-3: For precision color detection

FT 55-CM-3: For precision color detection

With a light spot of 4 × 4 mm at a measurement range of 18-60 mm, this variant is suitable for small objects or confined installation situations. Depending on the version, up to five switching outputs are available and up to twelve colors can be stored.

FT 55-CM-4: Long measurement range
FT 55-CM-4: Long measurement range

The measurement range of up to 150 mm with an 8 × 8 mm light spot accommodates greater distances to the object. Here as well, up to twelve colors can be stored, which makes this variant the right choice when a greater range and high flexibility are needed.

FT 25-C: for printed mark detection
FT 25-C: for printed mark detection

With a frequency of up to 10,000 Hz and a spot size of 1 × 5 mm, it is ideally suited to challenging printed mark detection tasks.

Typical applications for industrial color sensors

Color sensors are used for numerous processes in industrial automation to reliably detect defined color values or objects based on a color and to derive switching signals from the results. Typical tasks span the range from material sorting to verification of product characteristics and on to detection of color marks. The sensors compare measured RGB intensities with taught-in color values, thereby enabling stable evaluation directly in the process.

Detecting flat objects on conveyor belts

Detecting flat objects on conveyor belts

Very flat packaging, often in different colors, is transported on conveyor belts. In order for downstream processes such as counting, separating or ejecting to function properly, these objects must be reliably detected. A sensor is to monitor their presence independently of the height and color of the packaging.

Detecting stickers on foil rolls

Detecting stickers on foil rolls

Foil is processed on coils in a winding machine. The transitions between two rolls of foil are secured using adhesive tape (stickers) so that the web continues to run continuously. However, these transitions must not be processed further in downstream steps, as they can impair product quality or cause faults. This is why the adhesive strips on the foil must be reliably detected and ejected. A sensor can be used to perform this task.
