In the automotive industry, it is often necessary to automate the movement of large objects, such as sheet metal, for car body construction. The precise detection of the X and Y position of the component using a vision sensor is critical to ensure a precise gripping process for the robot.
Even slight angular deviations can cause significant positional errors in large objects making it crucial to detect them with extreme precision. The components being handled are typically large, stackable, and often have shiny, reflective surfaces. To achieve the necessary precision, integrating the camera directly into the robot gripper is beneficial. However, this exposes the camera to high mechanical stress. To prevent collisions, a 100% detection rate is essential.
The VISOR® Robotic enables precise position determination of large components, including their x/y coordinates and orientation, and transmits this information to the control system in robot coordinates. The vision camera captures the position of stacked objects as well as the distance between them. Thanks to its compact and robust design, the 2D camera can be easily integrated directly into the robot gripper. Standardized calibration plates allow for the automated calibration of both the robot and the camera. To ensure proper illumination across different distances and part positions, an additional ring light is used. Additionally, a distance sensor accurately measures the working distance, particularly when components are stacked.
