Industry 4.0

The concept of Industry 4.0 comes with a number of catchwords and phrases, some of which have different meanings depending on the manufacturer. Learn more here about how SensoPart provides products and technologies that will also help you implement the 4th industrial revolution in your production plant.

The machine suddenly comes to a standstill...what now?
Just reduce maintenance intervals and push up costs?

Predictive maintenance is considered a key component of Industry 4.0. Efforts were made in the past to prevent production downtime through fixed, regular maintenance cycles for all machines and devices.
Today, modern production systems are expected to monitor themselves and detect and report possible wear and tear, defects and downtimes before they occur.
To do so, the systems must be equipped with additional sensors that monitor machine parts and/or themselves.

Our solution

SensoPart sensors can continually monitor your machine parts for soiling or wear and tear, check fill levelscoil diameters or regulate dancer control systems, amongst other tasks. And they provide sufficient advance warning of machine downtime. Our sensors also monitor their own functional reserves and limitations, for example soiling on optical sensors, and report them to the parent system.

Do your customers having increasingly individualised requests, which they want implemented immediately in small quantities and at a good price?

The growing trend towards individualised products has now penetrated every sector. Each market demands customised product designs at a cheap price. "Batch 1" has become one of the most important requirements of modern production plants in the age of Industry 4.0. Only those who can produce single units flexibly and economically will stay competitive.

Our solution

A flexible change-over of the inspection programmes in SensoPart VISOR® vision sensors enables individualised production of customised quantities. Up to 255 product configurations can be automatically inspected without the need for manual intervention in production.

Do you also want to reduce installation costs for your highly-complex production line?
Are you looking for simpler diagnosis and maintenance options?

IO-Link is the first worldwide standardised IO technology (IEC 61131-9) for communicating with sensors and actuators. The high-performance point-to-point communication is based on the standard 3-conductor sensor and actuator connection without any additional cable requirements. IO-Link can therefore be easily and cost-efficiently integrated into existing machines.  IO-Link transforms every production line into a smart factory and is the core technology for Industry 4.0.

Our solution

Extensive diagnosis information, smart functions and simple parameter settings are just some of the characteristics of our sensors with IO-Link.
All information on the topic of IO-Link and its advantages, as well as a complete list of SensoPart products available with IO-Link can be find on our IO-Link page.

Do you want to spare your employees monotonous production tasks?
Is consistent quality a key factor in your plant?
Do you have critical assembly procedures that cannot be completed by one person alone?

So-called pick & place applications are an important topic in relation to Industry 4.0. For example, components are seized by the gripper arm of collaborative robots and moved to a target destination. In order to pick up a component, the robot needs to know the part’s exact position, particularly in relation to the robot’s own coordinate system.

If the part’s position is determined by a vision sensor, the robot is unable to interpret the image pixels, and the picture may also be inaccurate as a result of the sensor’s diagonal view angle or lens distortion.

Assembly procedures and quality inspections can also be easily carried out by a robot, allowing employees to dedicate themselves to more useful tasks.

Our solution

Instead of complex programming to enable the conversion of sensor coordinates into robot coordinates in the control system, this can now be done in the configuration software of SensoPart’s VISOR® vision sensors in just a few mouse clicks. This represents a significant boost in efficiency when setting up pick & place applications! Thanks to clever operating aids such as the graphic “snap function”, calibration is completed in just seconds. The calibration process can even be fully automated through interface commands, e.g. via Ethernet, EtherNet/IP or PROFINET. This is particularly useful when modifying or readjusting applications. The VISOR® can also check quality parameters and, if necessary, also read codes to allow clear identification of the object.

Exact positioning and presence detection of components in the gripper requires the smallest possible sensor, which can be installed in a very narrow space. SensoPart sensors from the F 10 series in LED and laser versions form one of the most comprehensive series of subminiature sensors on the market. Our laser sensor with adjustable precise background suppression through teach-in is the smallest in the world and is particularly suited for installation in tight spaces as well as in moving machine parts.

How can the enormous quantity of data that is now also gathered at every possible point in the production environment be put to use to improve production procedures?

The term “Industry Analytics” describes the useful merger of Industry 4.0 and Big data. This primarily involves solving specific tasks, such as preventing production downtimes (see also “predictive maintenance”) or achieving an increase in production quality. Here it is important that all the data gathered in the production process is stored in a central place so that it can be evaluated by special analysis tools.

Our solution

SensoPart VISOR® vision sensors can write their data into a centralised file sever via the local network or through the Internet if requested. This provides you with centralised access to all relevant data within your production process, which you can continuously improve.

The term “Internet of things” (IoT for short) has established itself in the English language as a synonym for Industry 4.0. However, IoT is not just limited to industry and also includes consumer goods, for example in the home. It is the concept of connecting all everyday appliances to the Internet so that they can communicate with each other. “Smart devices” should assist us unnoticed in every situation.

The term “Cyber Physical Systems’ has a similar meaning. It constitutes the technological basis for combining information technology with the physical world and plays an important role in a growing number of sectors, such as the automotive sector, transport, energy, production, health or infrastructure.

Our solution

SensoPart VISOR® vision sensors are equipped with Ethernet, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET interfaces, enabling connection to your existing communication infrastructure. Our vision sensors can be addressed through the IP address and communicate with other end devices via Intranet/Internet. SensoPart’s own interface “SensoWeb” is accessible from anywhere using a web browser.

IO-Link turns every production plant into a "Smart Factory".  Sensors and actuators can communicate with each other independent of fieldbus and manufacturer. Extensive diagnostic information, Smart Functions and simple parameterization are just some of the features of our sensors with IO-Link.

An error is discovered in the final inspection... What now?
all back the complete batch?

The traceability of production goods is gaining increasing importance as production facilities become more and more complex. Transparency is becoming a must, but with the simultaneous demand for a greater degree of individualisation, so that it is possible to locate individual products at any time during the production process, whether to implement a specific production step, call back a product or check status information.

For this purpose, each product is given a virtual counterpart, which saves all information on the real object throughout the entire production and logistics procedure.

Our solution

The SensoPart VISOR® Code Reader can effortlessly read numerous types of barcodes as well as printed and directly marked ECC-200 data matrix codes, and on any material surface (metal, plastic, paper, glass). Codes on sloping, warped, convex, reflective or transparent surfaces are routinely enciphered by the sensor. The VISOR® Code Reader uses standardised quality parameters to analyse the quality of your printed and directly marked data matrix codes according to ISO and AIM standards.

more about VISOR® Code Readers

A growing number of plastic components are therefore now marked with an ECC200 code that is an integral part of the injection mould, directly during production. This has the advantage of being very cost-effective and reliable, and the marking is virtually permanent. Conventional code readers find it very difficult to detect the DMC due to the extremely low contrast. The solution comes in the shape of our VISOR® Allround vision sensors with the new award-winning multishot function. The code moulded in the plastic forms a three-dimensional structure and the individual modules can be clearly detected as raised or recessed areas. This ensures that the code is always reliably read.
