Low-cost vision code reader with a 1.3 MP resolution

SensoPart is expanding its high-end code reader family VISOR® V20 with a high-performance model for standard applications. The new VISOR® V20 Standard rounds off SensoPart’s portfolio of vision sensors with code reading functions. Until now a high image resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels only came with the Advanced or Professional series, which include additional functions such as OCR and object detection. However, those who do not require these extra features can now also benefit from enhanced performance with the economical standard version. The compact sensor reads all common 1 D barcodes and 2D data matrix codes. Typical applications involve identification of directly marked components in the machine construction sector and in the automotive and plastics industry.

The integrated 1.3 MP imaging chip also opens up applications for which the standard VGA resolution is insufficient, e.g. detection of several small codes in a large search area. If the full image resolution is not required, the user can instead select between individual image sections and three different software-simulated focal widths (6, 12 and 25 mm). The sensor can therefore be flexibly adjusted to different object sizes and detection ranges, without the need to change the lens or modify the mounting position.
Like the other sensor versions from the SensoPart VISOR® V10 and V20 series, the new code reader is equipped with a compact, heavy-duty housing (IP 67) with integrated image recording, optics, lighting and signal processing. In addition to EthernetIP, the vision sensor also supports the fieldbus standard Profinet. It is downwards compatible with the established VISOR® V10 series, facilitating a simple change-over.
