Position determination for the removal of battery modules

Cover

The task

Several components, such as battery modules, are installed in a battery pack. After reading the directly marked code, this step determines the position of the individual components in the material container without contact.

The challenge

The components are transported in a material container next to each other and partially stacked on top of each other. For a precise gripping process, sensors should determine the exact position of the components. In this step, high precision is very important to avoid damage to the battery modules.

Our solution

Due to the size of the battery modules, two VISOR® Robotic are integrated directly on the gripper above two prominent features of the object. This makes efficient use of the resolution and enables a precise and smooth removal of the battery modules from the storage bin. With the hand-eye calibration included in the vision sensor, it communicates directly in robot coordinates. In addition, the contour detector offers position control and thus provides additional information for safe gripping of the module in addition to the position coordinates. The VISOR® is triggered by a special robot command in which the current robot position is transmitted to the VISOR®. Without a complex back-calculation on the robot controller, it thus always provides the real position of the component in robot coordinates. This is a considerable advantage, especially when handling multiple objects from different storage areas.

Your advantages

  • Thanks to the fully automatable hand-eye calibration, the VISOR® always provides real X/Y and angle information, without time-consuming back-calculation on the robot controller
  • With its high computing performance in a compact design, the VISOR® hardware is predestined for use directly on the robot gripper
  • Reduced cabling effort due to e.g. AIDA-compliant, robot-compatible push-pull cables
  • The VISOR® software offers various functions for determining the position of components
  • Easy connection to robotics systems of leading manufacturers with functions such as:
    • Automated calibration to the robot coordinate system
    • Automated validation of position data
    • Standardized coordinate transmission
